Drug Disposal Guide
Safely disposing of unused or unwanted drugs is to prevent misuse, abuse, poisoning and protect the environment.
What To Do:
Do not flush medication down the toilet
Visit safe.pharmacy to find the closest Drug Disposal Location to You (no fees)
These locations will accept a variety of medications, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, as well as needles and sharps.
Keep prescription medications in their original containers.
Peel off the prescription label or Cover the patient's name and prescription number with a permanent marker.
If you cannot get to a drug take back location promptly, or there is none near you.
Follow these instructions to discard the medicine in your trash at home.
Mix medicines (liquid or pills; do not crush tablets or capsules) with an unappealing substance such as dirt, cat litter, or used coffee grounds;
Place the mixture in a container such as a sealed plastic bag;
Throw away the container in your trash at home; and
Delete all personal information on the prescription label of empty medicine bottles or medicine packaging, then trash or recycle the empty bottle or packaging.
